Student Faculty Council (SFC)
One of the best ways to get involved within the MUDEC and Luxembourg Communities is to be a part of the SFC. The Student Faculty Council is an elected student-run group of engaging leaders who plan, execute, and communicate events and activities across the semester within MUDEC and our surrounding international community. The semester will begin with an offsite SFC leadership retreat held on the Sunday before the first full week of classes. This group usually meets one hour per week during lunch to plan and before, during, and after MUDEC events as well. Each role is unique, but the entire team together collaboratively. This semester nominations for SFC were held in a different way. While SFC members have already been selected, all students are welcome to join an SFC Committee, such as the Semester Legacy committee to contribute to semester activities.

Welcome to the Château...
MUDEC is happy to host the following professors from Oxford this semester!
Lunch at the Chateau: How does it work?
**NEW to MUDEC?:
Each week our chef, Stephane, will share the menus via a Google Form and a message through the Canvas site. It is assumed that all students will take the meat/fish option each week. In the case that you prefer the meat-less option, you will need to register. Please see details below.
But wait, the menus are in French! Yes, that is correct. Luxembourg is a multilingual environment, one of the most common languages being French. Feel free to use Google translate or even google the dish to learn about ingredients. If you have specific dietary issues, be sure to talk with Carli and Stephane (the chef) and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
*Please note that each day, MUDEC also provides a salad bar and fresh fruit.
How to Register for Meat-less Menus:
1) On a regular basis, you will need to register for the next week's meat-less lunches by the prior Tuesday at 8AM. Remember, registration for the meat/fish option is not required. (Note: You do not have to be a vegetarian to register for the vegetarian option. If you prefer the vegetarian meal, you are welcome to register.)
2) Stephane, our chef, will send out a link to a Google Form for registration via our Canvas site.
3) You will have 2-3 day to register for the meat-less option or options by TYPING YOUR NAME in the Google Sheet as your answer. (Note: You can register for one, two, three, or all four days of the week.)
3) On the day you had registered for the meat-less menu, Stephane will have a list of names behind the kitchen window. To pick-up your meat-less meal, you will need to present a photo ID (Miami ID, Passport, Residency Permit, etc.)
**Remember: You only have to register if you'd like to vegetarian option.
Advice from Previous Students:
- “Engage yourself! Lux is what you make it.”
- “Plan ahead but leave a few weekends open because you never know who you're going to meet and want to travel with. Also-do your shopping in Trier-it is way cheaper.”
- “Work on your studies ahead of time. Switch who you travel with. Do not plan travels too far ahead.”
- “Take every opportunity wherever you travel to get to know the locals or visit one unconventional/ non touristy place. The main thing that studying abroad taught me was faith in humanity. People are happy that you're branching out from America and getting to know other cultures. They want to help you and get to know you. Be safe always and be cautious of body language/etc. But also have faith in the human race. We really do just want to helping another, no matter where you come from.”
- “Travel with new people and be open to making new friends.”
- “Just enjoy it, and don't get to stressed when traveling. My dad says always one thing goes wrong when you travel so don't get too flustered when it happens to you.”
- “Keep up with homework during the week so you don't have to worry about it over the weekend or Sunday/Monday night.”
- “Something is bound to go wrong, just go with the flow and don't panic about it.”
- “Take advantage of everything -- every opportunity you are presented with, every chance you have to try something new, every new person you meet. And don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Also, take time to reflect upon your travels. I think that so many of us just fly and train and bus from one place to the next without really taking it all in. And before you know it, it's over.”
- “Enjoy it! It goes so fast. Don't take a night train without a bed! Try to use airbnb over hostels if they're cheap Use a hostel at least once Give every place a chance.”
- “Make the most out of every experience. Things will go wrong sometimes but there will and should be more ups than downs. Travel with new people and make friends with everyone. Don't plan out your semester super early because you will meet new people and you will want to travel with them. Get to know your host family.”
- “1. But a plugbug for your computer 2. Don't pack a lot of summer clothes 3. Never fly out of Luxembourg-check Frankfurt, Hahn, Brussels, Paris 4. Plan ahead--It will be so much cheaper and you will get to do so much more 5. Branch out, even if you study abroad with friends, make new friends here and travel with them 6. Don't have regrets, if you want to go somewhere chances are someone else here wants to go there too. Even if you don't know them plan a trip with them or even travel alone 7. Get an international phone plan.
- “Don't get caught up in trying to find your travel group right away. You will travel with new people throughout the semester! Do what you want to do and go where you want to go, you may never have the opportunity to do these things again!”
- “Get to know all of your class, they're all different but it becomes a great group!”
- “Take advantage of every moment...dont spend your time collecting souvenirs but rather spend it collecting experiences and memories. Those will last far longer!!!”
- “Try not to spend money on meals or very little during the week. Most money is spent on the weekends and that gives you more. Do your laundry at the laundry lady. It's only 1 euro more and the clothes return dried and folded. Plan your trips according to where you may already be, i.e. Discovery Tours or the Study Tour. Also, plan longer trips or trips to places you would want to spend more time in for long breaks. Weekend trips actually only give you one full day of sightseeing.”
- “Whenever you find yourself in a challenging situation just take a deep breath and relax. Things will go wrong but it's important to take a deep breath and compose yourself and think of a plan.”
- “You don't have to travel every weekend! Sometimes it's nice to just go on a day trip on the Discovery Tour and go back to Luxembourg after.”
- “The stress will pass.”
