Lecturer Background:
I am a German, French and Luxembourgian with a typical European biography. I am 28 years old, have a bachelors in journalism and a masters in European Governance. I work as a freelance journalist and with the University of Luxembourg I work on participatory political models.
Lecture Summary:
Last year the Luxembourgian chapter of Pulse of Europe - a grass root-movement that started off in Germany and expanded in Europe - that gathers people on the public space to speak out for the values of the European Union and against any kind of nationalism and populism. During these public events I realized that we only managed to assemble people who are part of one bubble. The participants of those gatherings have often lived abroad, have a lot of education, are the ones taking advantage of the globalization. Thus, there are many people we could not get in touch. This led me to the conclusion that it is time to create projects that fill the gap between different bubbles and brings people together who would normally not interact with each other.
Let´s discuss together how we can break up bubbles and make sure that people from different backgrounds can interact with each other and create mutual understanding. How can we bring young and old people together, people from the countryside and the cities, people with different professional backgrounds and people from different ethnic groups.

Lecturer Background:
Born and raised in Ohio and having lived on the West Coast for 15 years and for over 10 in Paris, many events have brought me to being a painter. Being a painter comes despite never having studied art and never once having thought growing up that it would be what I would be doing. I have lived in many different places, studied many different things, had a variety of work experiences, and I think the diversity of my background affects my art: although I paint landscapes, abstracts, figurative, abstract-figurative, cities, or any mixture thereof, the thread that holds all of my work together is color. Following in the footsteps of my father I too am an entrepreneur. I do all the production, marketing, and sales of my own work and am solely responsible for all this. I look forward to sharing some of these experiences in my discussion with the students and faculty and hope to show the value (and perhaps some drawbacks) of having a wide range of experiences .
Lecture Summary:
Based on my experience as a self-taught artist whose work is diverse in form yet specializes in color, I will discuss, using images of my own paintings, what one particular event inspired me, what diverse experiences influence me, and how in particular things everyone has to deal with also apply to an artist, including:
-managing your inner critic and facing your fears
-the importance of paying attention to detail
-being your own boss
-how you can help your friends and how they can help you
-the importance of listening (and when not to listen!)
-charting your own path
