Public Transportation from Luxembourg Airport
Step 1: Travel from Luxembourg (Findel) Airport to the Lux City Train Station
The #16 bus line begins at the Airport. They wait outside the main entrance to the left. (where the gold star is in the photo). A public transportation ticket is 2€ that you can buy on the bus. Note: The same ticket will last for up to 2 hours (so save it to use for the train too!) The bus runs about every 15 minutes and lasts approximately ½ hour. Your stop will be "Gare Centrale" and will look like the photo below as you approach. |
Step 2: Travel from Luxembourg City Train Station to Differdange:
You will want a train headed to Esch/Rodange. The large schedule on the far wall will tell you what track the next train will arrive on under the word "Voie."
If you purchased a ticket on the bus, just keep it handy to show the conductor when they come by and check on the train. If you are starting your journey at the train station, you can purchase a ticket from either the Mobiliteit Office or from a ticket machine. If purchased from the machine, be sure to validate your ticket using the orange validation box in the foyer or the platform.
The train ride will be approximately 40 minutes. You stop is Differdange.

Step 3: Travel on foot from the Differdange train stop to MUDEC
Here there is a train "stop," instead of a train station. As you depart walk down the stairs leading to the traffic circle. Turn left and stay long the left hand side of the road. At the next road available on your left, turn left onto "Avenue Charlotte." Walk up the hill and once you pass the grassy community area on your left there is the driveway leading up to the Château. There will be a sign at the Avenue Charlotte Intersection pointing towards MUDEC. The entire walk with luggage will take 5 - 10 minutes. When you are not loaded down with luggage, you will probably prefer the shortcut: after the elementary school of Diffderdange, turn left and go up the long flight of steps, turn right at the top of the stairs and follow the path to the Château's main entrance. |
Traveling by Taxi:
At the airport there will usually be taxis waiting around the entrance/exit. They may not look like the typical yellow American taxi, usually more black sedans. If there aren't any available you can call for one. CoLux: (00352) 48 22 33.
From the Luxembourg Airport to Differdange: taxis charge around 100€ and can usually only carry 2 students plus their luggage. Students will split the bill.
From the Luxembourg Airport to Luxembourg City: taxis charge about 25€

Traveling by Car:
Take highway A4 via Esch / Alzette until you see the sign for Differdange.
Follow the signs to A13 until you see the exit marked Sortie Differdange (Exit Differdange).
Once you enter Differdange, stay on the main road (rue de Soleuvre / rue E. Mark).
You will come to a roundabout with a water fountain made of five large rocks.
Continue straight ahead.
Drive underneath a railroad overpass.
Turn left at the second street going left: (Avenue G. D. Charlotte).
Drive uphill for about 100 yards.
Turn left into a small lane opposite a church on your right.
This lane is called Impasse du Château. It leads directly to MUDEC’s Château.

Train from Brussels Airport:
Step 1: Go to Brussels Aiport Train Station
After you arrive into Brussels, you'll get your bag, go through customs, and will exit customs on Floor 0 of the airport. From there, take the escalators down one floor to -1 and you will already be in the Brussels Airport Train Station. If you are looking at schedules online you may see it written as "BRU Brussels Airport" "Bruxelles-Nat.-Aéroport" or "Brussel-Nationaal-Luchthaven."
Step 2: Buy a Ticket
Through clear glass doors you will see the ticket windows, there you can purchase a train ticket to Luxembourg. There is only international train station in Luxembourg so you may see it written as "Luxembourg" "Luxembourg Gare" "Luxembourg Gare Central" but it is all the same place. The ticket will be around €30, payable by cash or credit card. And the train route will run at least once an hour. Unfortunately, the train isn't directly into Luxembourg, there is one switch, but the details are below. Your ticket will cover both trains that you take and is not for any specific train time. Meaning if you miss one train, no worries your ticket is valid on any of the trains to Luxembourg at any time.
Step 3: Train Ride from Brussels Airport to Brussels-Noord
The first part of the train ride just takes you from the airport to Brussels's city center and then the next train takes you from Brussels directly to Luxembourg. So this first leg is only a 10 minute ride. When you arrive at "Brussels-Noord" or sometimes written as "Bruxelles-Nord" you will hop off this train. The great news is that of all the Brussels train stations, this is the smallest, least busy, and easiest to navigate. The next thing you'll do, is look to find what track your next train will arrive on. This can be found if you go down the stairs and look at the electronic screens. Look for Luxembourg as either the destination or one of the listed stops and the corresponding number will be the track number. While you are waiting on that track for the train, feel free to confirm that you have the right track with one of the other people waiting... usually people are very willing to help!
Step 4: Train Ride from Brussels-Noord to Luxembourg
When this train arrives, you can relax and take in the beautiful countryside for about 2 and half hours. This train will take you directly into Luxembourg City. At which point, depending on where you will be living and the arrival plans you determine with your host family, you can either take either taxi or public transportation to their home, they might be able to pick you up, or you can take our local train from Luxembourg City to the Chateau in Differdange. Note: You will have to purchase another ticket for the Luxembourg public train. It is €2 and can be purchased at the office in the train station. Those instructions are outlined Step 2 of "Public Transportation from the Luxembourg Airport."
